Katy Perry and Kendall Jenner have just joined an exclusive club. They’re the new targets of fake pregnancy stories, marking a passing of the stork, so to speak, from celebs like Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston to a younger generation.

Perry, 30, was the subject of screaming headlines this week in OK magazine, the source of dozens of previous fake celebrity stories.

Jenner, who is only 19, also joined the club this week with a fake pregnancy story in Star magazine, also the purveyor of numerous scandalous scoops, which almost never turn out to be true.

Jennifer Lawrence, 24,recently scored her first pregnancy cover. The 24-year-old actress was reportedly knocked up by boyfriend Chris Martin, the consciously uncoupled husband of Gwyneth Paltrow.

Beyonce is also part of the new fake pregnancy generation. Other celebs in the club include Michelle Williams, singer Pink, Amber Heard, Hillary Duff and even Miley Cyrus.

Of significance, of course, is the changing of the guard on the pregnancy beat. For years, celebs like Jolie and Aniston were the subject of countless fake pregnancy stories.

Jennifer Aniston has been the subject of more than two dozen fake pregnancy stories.

But Angie will turn 40 in June and Jen just turned 46 on Feb. 11. Now that they are pretty much outside their child bearing years, publishing fake pregnancy stories about them makes less sense, not that it’s stopped the rumor mill.

Tabloids reported that both were expecting as late as last year, despite their age.

Both have had a pretty good run.

The tabs reported that Aniston was pregnant at least 27 times over the years. Sometimes the pregnancies were joyful; sometimes sad, according to an accounting in HuffPost.

On at least six occasions, the tabs reported she was pregnant with twins! Of course, she’s childless and likely to remain that way.

Although women have been known to get pregnant after 45 in very rare occasions, so she’s probably still good for a few more headlines.

As for Angelina, she’s reported to have been pregnant at least a dozen times in recent years. The latest story appeared last year; she was reportedly bearing twins, according to GossipCop, which has busted more pregnancy rumors than even it can count.

Miley Cyrus blasted the tabloids for reporting a fake pregnancy.

With the old guard aging, what to do? Find new subjects, of course.

Like solar storms that occasionally burst forth from the sun, the nation’s leading tabloid magazines erupted with sensational, if barely believable stories with regularity.

From celebrity births, break ups and personal meltdowns to pregnancies and abortions, eeverything is fair game.

Forget the fact that most of the stories will never pan out. It’s all about the moment in tabloid land, and anything goes, or at least whatever they claim the latest “sources” are saying.

Pssst! Did you hear, Betty White is pregnant? She’s 90, right? A true miracle!
