Donald Trump's Dumbest Tweet Yet Could Get Him Impeached (Watch!)

Late Night Comics Riff on Obstruction Goof

Donald Trump’s notorious habit of firing off Tweets has come back to bite him in the ass. In his dumbest Tweet ever, the president virtually made the case for obstruction of justice against himself!

“I had to fire General [Mike] Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies,” he wrote on the social media site.

“It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!” he added.

Trump’s admission that he knew Flynn had lied to the FBI put him in legal jeopardy for obstructing justice over the firing of FBI Director James Comey.

The goof was so serious, White House lawyers went into crisis mode, leading to a seismic shift in the president’s legal strategy.

Seemingly acknowledging Trump had created a prima facie obstruction case against himself, Trump Lawyer John Dowd tried to argue the President could not be charged.

Since the president serves as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer, Dowd claimed he has an absolute right to get involved in criminal justice matters.

“There is absolutely no reason for the President’s legal team to go out there and claim that the President cannot obstruct justice unless they are concerned that he may have liability for that,” former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti told CNN.

Whoa! The whole can of worms was just too ripe to let pass on late night television.

“Many people say this situation can’t get worse. To which Donald Trump said, ‘Hold my beer.’ He doesn’t even drink beer,” said talk show comic Stephen Colbert.

“Here’s the thing; Trump’s not supposed to have known Flynn lied to the FBI, because the day after he fired Flynn, FBI Director James Comey said Trump told him to go easy on Flynn. That would be an admission of obstruction of justice.”

“It’s like you’re trying to get out of one lie and you actually tell a much worse lie,” he explained.

In only gets more complicated from there.
