Pop icon Elton John has gone on a tirade trashing reality star Kim Kardashian and indirectly reality television for “killing talent.” John, who has always been outspoken, saved his harshest criticism for English performers like Cheryl Cole , The Saturdays and pop music in general.
But he reached across the Atlantic to single out Kardashian, who with her sisters Kourtney and Khloe, have become the reigning queens of reality television, stacking up myriad endorsements and multi-million dollar incomes.
As far as John, 63, is concerned, the Kardashians are crap. “Who the f*ck is Kim Kardashian?” he told UK magazine The Word. ‘Some stupid old tart from somewhere. Reality has killed talent.”
Kardashian has had a midas touch for parlaying little or no talent into a lucrative career that began with a sex tape. Since then, she has built a legion of loyal fans through her show, “Keeping up with the Kardashians.”
Kim is currently in a new reality show, “Kourtney and Kim Take New York,” which premiered Jan. 30.
As far as comtemporary pop musicians, “Frankly, they all sound the same,” he said. “It’s hard to tell Girls Aloud from The Saturdays. And then there’s Cheryl Cole… it’s all c**p.”
“British pop music like that is the worst, it’s just awful, it could have been made by anybody,” John said.
‘The records I love are all about musicianship,” he added. “When you put a bunch of musicians in a room together there’s human soul, there’s magic in there. That’s not happening now.”
