Ashton Kutcher appears to offering a limited response to tabloid reports about his sexual escapades by engaging in some psycho-babble about online media which he likens to publishing “literature.”
Meanwhile Nikon has released a new ad featuring Kutcher that has remarkable parallels to his sex scandal.
Both Kutcher and wife Demi Moore, avid social commentators on Twitter, have been laying low since news broke in September that the “Two and a Half Men” star bedded a 22-year-old blonde party girl while in San Diego.
Earlier this month, Sara Leal, 22, allegedly spoke to UK tabloid The Sun , which printed fresh details about the night in San Diego that she hooked up with Kutcher at his Hard Rock Hotel suite.
Since then, Moore and Kutcher have been spotted together at a Kabbalah center and on Cachuma Lake camping retreat near Santa Barbara, where they supposedly are getting counseling.
In the latest development, Kutcher addressed recent rumours about his marriage by discussing the value of “honesty” and “truth” in a new online video.
Kutcher rambles about the history of literature, and claims the rise of the internet and social media has intensified the spread of gossip.
“I just wanted to open up a little dialogue on the state of honesty. The state of truth. The status of truth as it pertains to literature and media…” he says.
“When the cost structure comes down on printing… the level of honesty of literature starts to plummet…
“I started thinking about that in relation to media and social media today where the threshold to actually have literature printed and distributed… is zero dollars… thereby there is no gatekeeper of the truth…”
“People can b**tardise the truth in any way, shape or form that they want and spread that around the world… A lie can travel halfway around the world before the truth can leave someone’s lips…”
“I was thinking that we really have to take it upon ourselves to instil a level of honesty… in the works in the media that we create and share with one another… and be certain that we are doing our own diligence that what we are saying is for the benefit of another.”
Just as the scandal was cooling down, however, Kutcher’s latest commercial for Nikon cameras, created before his scandal, was just released and it raised eyebrows because of its racy nature.
The 33-year-old actor is photographing pretty young girls from the balcony of his hotel room with Nikon’s new long lens Coolpix camera.
He’s flirting with the girls and they are flirting back. Previous commercials have been in the same vein.
The final frames of the ad show him in his room surrounded by the ladies from the beach, as he strums his ukulele.
