Selena Gomez has been caught in the riptide of the media speculation surrounding boyfriend Justin Bieber’s baby drama, inlcuding rumors about herself, and talks for the first time about how she’s handling the crisis.
The 19-year-old former Disney star appears today (Nov. 17) on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and Ellen wastes no time asking her how she’s holding up in the face of the damning allegations.
“I have to ask before we talk about anything else… What a crazy last two weeks it’s been in the news,” DeGeneres said. “You’ve been all right?”
“I have been, yeah,” Gomez responded.
DeGeneres pressed on further, asking, “Everything’s all good now. You knew that all along but it’s nice to have everything out in the open now.”
“Yeah, it’s good to just kind of… be good,” Gomez responded.
Selena confided that it hasn’t been easy for her to deal with the allegations, but she’s taking it in stride.
When the scandal first broke two weeks ago, some tabloids reported that she had broken up with Bieber over the matter.
But the rumors were quickly squelched by her team and Gomez has been seen in public showing support for the Biebs, and carrying on with their relationship.
The case has taken several shocking twists since the news first broke that a San Diego woman had filed a lawsuit accusing Bieber of fathering her child.
At first Bieber didn’t respond to the charges, but when that only created more suspicion he firmly denied knowing the woman, Mariah Yeater, much less having sex with her. He also volunteered to take a paternity test.
Yeater claims she and Bieber had sex after a concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in Oct. 2010. She gave birth to a boy in July.
Yeater’s original legal team dropped the law suit suit against the Canadian pop sensation Wednesday and resigned from the case, and tabloid Web sites claimed the case was over.
But the move merely marked a shift in legal strategy. Chicago paternity lawyer Jeffrey Leving, said he’s leading a new legal team and is pursuing private negotiations for Bieber to take a paternity test.
Just when it seemed Yeater was still on solid ground with her claims, new information broke today that she tried to cover up evidence that another boy was the father.
Bieber’s attorney has vowed not to negotiate with Yeater.
