Rooney Mara has a tough act to follow in her new movie “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” But when the going gets tough, the tough, in Rooney’s case, get their nipple pierced.
Mara was so determined to be true to her character, heavily pierced goth investigator Lisbeth Salander, that she with the distance with her breast.
“I’m naked quite a lot in the movie, and I thought, she has it in the book, and she should have it [in the movie],’ Mara said in a new interview with Allure magazine.
“It just felt like a good one to get – a necessary one to get.” she added.

Mara added that her extensive screen time nude never phased her during filming.
“Nudity is such a huge part of the character in the book, so I never thought twice about it,” she explained.
“There was no time for hesitation. I didn’t have time to second-guess anything or be scared; I just showed up and was comfortable,” she explained.
Mara is starring in the first U.S. remake of the 2009 Swedish film series, based on the late Steig Larson’s award winning Millennium trilogy crime novels.
The Swedish films have become cult classics, and Swedish actress Noomi Rapace defined the role of Lisbeth Salander, setting a high hurdle for Mara.
The 25-year-old actress went through an extensive transformation to become the nihilistic, goth avenging heroine.
Mara had to dye and chop off her hair, have her eyebrows bleached, and had her ears pierced several times, along with her lip, nose and the nipple.
Surprisingly, she said the ear piercings were the most painful. “I didn’t even have pierced ears. They put four holes in each ear, and, weirdly, that hurt the most,” she said.
Mara also said she had to learn to smoke.
“I don’t smoke. I smoked for the film. I think I’m addicted in character. If I had to go to set right now and work, I would crave a cigarette. But otherwise, I don’t,” she said.
The film also stars Daniel Craig as journalist Mikael Blomkvist, Christopher Plummer as the evil Henrik Vanger and Robin Wright as Erika Berger.
It debuts on December 21.
