Emilia Clarke is a hot mess as Daenerys Targaryen in new photos released today (Feb. 9), previewing the upcoming season 2 of “Game of Thrones.”

Jack Gleeson who plays the evil Joffrey Baratheon and Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, are back vying for Seven Kingdoms of Westeros in HBO’s second season of the medieval drama. It’s a dirty game, but the prize is the coveted Iron Throne.

The cast of characters lives in a world somewhere between savage and civilized. The inhabitants live in filth but are skilled in political intrigue, assassination and war.

The maidens are ferral and the men are beastly as rival dynasties trying to gain control of the seven kingdoms. The photos of cast members follows the release of the first trailer, previewing the upcoming season, last month.

First Look: Season Two Trailer!

The trailer, narrated by Conleth Hill as Varys opens with a sinister voice over. “Three great men, a king, a priest, and a rich man. Between them stands a common sale sword. Each great man bids the sale sword to kill the other two. Who lives, who dies?”

Judging from the clip, it looks like Tyrion will kick off the action as he makes a play for the throne. Varys advises, or is that warns, that “a very small man can cast a very large shadow.”

In the Seven Kingdoms “summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime,” metaphorically speaking of course. But it seems as though winter has definitely descended on the region from the ice-covered north to the eastern continent across the narrow sea.

Show co-creator David Benioff told MTV that season two will include “a lot of bloodshed and more romance “There are some great love stories starting up… It looks absolutely gorgeous. And the dragons are getting bigger!”

The show, based on the hugely popular George RR Martin fantasy novels “A Song of Ice and Fire,” was an instant hit when HBO introduced it. The new season will introduce a slew of new characters including Natalie Dormer as Lady Margaery Tyrell and Stephen Dillane as Stannis Baratheon.

The series returns on April 1; The complete season will be released on DVD as a box set on 5 March, if you need to catch up before season 2. Click the link above to pre-order it at amazon.com. The box set retails for $59 but you can buy it for $34.99, a savings of $25, or 42 percent, by pre-ordering it.
