Edwards, 59, suffered a recent heart attack scare that reportedly prompted his doctors to warn him to cut back on alcohol or else.
His heart condition caused a postponement in his Jan. 2012 corruption trial last year. This time, he was at home when he started to feel pain in his chest, according to The National Enquirer, which is hit or miss on these types of stories.
Edwards reportedly summoned his mistress Rielle Hunter, with whom he has a love child. Hunter reportedly drove him to the emergency room, a source close to the family claimed.
The tabloid first reported Edwards’ affair with Hunter in 2008 during the presidential campaign, when Edwards was a leading candidate. It also discovered that she was having his child, Quinn, now five years old.
