UK comic Russell Brand will host the “MTV Movie Awards,” does this mean Katy Perry is guaranteed to be a no show? The two have grown miles apart since their divorce last year and have avoided attending the same events

Brand, her husband of 14 months, filed legal papers on Dec. 30 to end the marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

In January, Brand was “dis-invited” from the People’s Choice Awards, so Katy could avoid any possible awkward moments involving her ex.

The UK comedian was also a no show at the Grammy’s in February, music’s premiere event. Perry, who had been nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, attended the event.

Perry, 27, was most recently spotted in the arms of Robert Ackroyd, guitarist with the band Florence + the Machine. The two were photographed getting cozy at the Coachella Music Festival.

The photos and reports of Perry’s new love interest allegedly sent Brand into a jealous funk. He reportedly fired off a long email admitting that he “gave up” on the marriage too soon, according to the UK’s Grazia magazine.

Brand appears to have been hit by a bad case of divorce remorse. Will his effort to reconcile convince Katy to attend the event, and even consider taking him back.

“This MTV Movie Awards will be more impressive than ‘The Avengers’ and you won’t have to wait an hour for someone to Hulk out,” said Brand in a statement promoting the event.

MTV may be looking for someone to spice up the show the same way UK comedian Ricky Gervais boosted the Golden Globe Awards with his off-color performance. Brand’s own movie career has sputtered. His films, “Arthur” and “Get Him to the Greek,” either flopped or were so-so performers.

He also appeared in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Despicable Me,” and will be in the upcoming “Rock of Ages.”

The MTV movie awards were Brand’s coming out party in America when he hosted the awards for the first time in 2008 and followed up in 2009. Previous hosts include Jason Sudeikis, Aziz Ansari, Andy Samberg, Ben Stiller, Jimmy Fallon, Mike Myers, Sarah Silverman and Justin Timberlake.

The live show will air on Sunday, June 3rd.
