The Food Network said it would not renew her contract. It expired at the end of June, but she’s still fully represented on the website.
A source tipped TheImproper that her recipes were still posted, as well as her profile, videos and glowing bio. A quick check found nearly 1,400 of her concoctions.
Paula Deen’s specialties include everything from Peanut Butter Covered Flank Steak, Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cakes and Bacon Cheeseburger Meatloaf, to Baked French Toast Casserole. In all, the site still publishes 2,392 recipes whipped up by Dean or her family members.
Deen was often criticized for her high fat and sugary ingredients.
The site also is still publishing videos of Deen cooking. Ironically, in one, she whips up “Auntie Peggy’s Cheesecake with Praline Topping” with an African-American woman.
Deen’s bio and profile are also still on the site. She’s described as “one part Southern charm, add a dash of ‘hey y’all.'”
But the network announced on June 21 that it was terminating its relationship with Deen because of her admission during a lawsuit deposition that the “hey y’all” cook frequently used racial slurs, including the n-word.
Deen and her brother are being sued for alleged sexual and racial harassment. A former manager of Deen’s restaurants in Savannah, Georgia filed the action, according to reports.
Deen was the fourth most popular chef on the network. Her show “Paula’s Home Cooking,”premiered in November 2002 after she made a series of guest appearances starting in 1999.
The show was the foundation of her extensive brand empire and gave her the visibility to launch a series of other endeavors like cookbooks, her own housewares brand and numerous corporate endorsements.
Despite the loss of the shows and several corporate sponsors, Deen still has a large following and her recipes remain popular. The Food Networks failure to remove her from its website suggests that it’s leaving a door open to bring Deen back after a suitable time frame, perhaps after the suit is decided.
