Lizzy Caplan has found out the hard way that familiarity breeds contempt, even when it comes to sex. She dropped by Conan O’Brien to talk about her new show “Masters of Sex” and how racy sex scenes have become BORING!!.

The series is based on the pioneering study conducted by Masters & Johnson starting the 1950s. It was the first to document human sexuality and sexual dysfunction.

Caplan plays Virgina E. Johnson, half of the Masters and Johnson research team. Her colleague, William H. Masters is played by Michael Sheen, of “Twilight” vampire fame. He played Aro, leader of the Volturi clan.

Showtime picked up the show, based on the Thomas Maie biography “Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson,” for 12 episodes.

“You’re character has to participate in sex and watch a lot of other people have sex; that’s part of your job now. How strange is that?” said Conan.

“Actually what’s strange about it is how quickly it becomes not strange,” she replied. “The first couple times it’s petrifying to do it personally.

“And then when you’re watching other people do it, it’s sort of disturbing and a little strange. They’re naked and rubbing together,” she explained.

But then by, like, the “fourth time,” she added, “Michael and I have conversations about lunch. No matter what you’re doing. it comes down to whether we’re going to have a Nacho bar for lunch that day.”

Yes, she actually said sex is “boring.”

Here’s another startling revelation, “No two people masturbate alike,” she reveals.

“Sort of like snowflakes,” Conan quipped. Yep, sort of like that.
