Ashlee Simpson has put her Hollywood Xanadu on the market for $4 million (a loss!), It’s not exactly clear what’s motivating the sale. And, the timing couldn’t be worse.
The whimsical turreted Hollywood McMansion has five bedroom and six bathrooms, so size can’t be an issue for Simpson and Fall Out Boy hubbie Pete Wentz and their young son Bronx.
She bought the house in 2007 for $4.5 million at the height of the real estate bubble.
Whether she can get even $4 million for it now is problematic. The Los Angeles real estate market has taken a big hit, and houses like her’s are idling on the market for months without buyers.
Fortunately, she didn’t let her rock star posing get the better of herself when she bought the place, and the decor has remained fairly conventional. But the finishes are fit for a rock diva.
It what can only be described as Gothic-Mediterranean mash-up, the home has a living room with a cathedral ceiling and exposed beams. The floors are walnut plank and the kitchen is open.
French doors open onto an expansive patio, leading to the swimming pool and spa. The courtyard contains a New Age California meditation garden with a fountain and fire pit.
The upstairs master bedroom suite has matching his and her closets, a fitness room and a media room
Sotheby’s Realty, which is handling the sale, says the home is ideal for “discerning clients” and offers “stunning views of the hills and canyon.”
Neither Ashlee nor Pete have spent much time at the home recently, which could explain the decision to sell. They may be contemplating setting up residence in the Big Apple.
Ashlee, reprising her West End London role as Roxie Hart in the Broadway musical production Chicago , has been living in New York since November.
Her run in the show ended earlier this month, but she and Pete stayed in town to put the final touches on his new collection for New York Fashion Week.
His fashion label Clandestine Industries showed off his Autumn Winter Fall 2010 collection.
Wentz stunned onlookers, at the end of the show, when he was wheeled out for his bow strapped to a gurney, dressed in a straight-jacket and Hannibal Lecter style mask.
