Swedish beauty Elin Nordegren was a major topic of Tiger Woods’ humble apology, but the heavy focus on his wife may have caused more problems than it solved.
Two conflicting portraits emerged after Woods’ apology Friday (Feb. 19) to his fans, friends, business associates and most of all to Elin, who was mentioned 10 times in his statement.
On Saturday Elin, 30, was spotted going about her business as she has throughout the crisis, shopping at a mall with daughter Sam. Elin has shown a strength of character in the scandal that has drawn comparisons to Jacqueline Kennedy.
She did not attend Tiger’s news conference, and reports out of the UK suggest that their relationship is as rocky as ever.
“Right now Elin is in a very dark place. She wants her husband to get better, but still can’t forgive him for his betrayals,” a source told the UK’s News of the World.
“She has broken down in tears many times over the past couple of weeks. Even three months on, revelations about his cheating send her over the edge.”
After the conference, Elin and Tiger reported argued about what he said. Elin accused him of “pressuring her publicly” in his statement in an effort to save their marriage, the News of the World reported.
Elin also complained about the number of times Woods brought up her name during his statement.
Woods praised Elin for her “poise and grace” and said she deserved “praise, not blame.” He stated emphatically that no domestic violence has ever occurred in their marriage, including the night Woods crashed his Cadillac SUV.
Woods comments, however, seemed to suggest that they are far from back in each other’s arms.
“We’ve started the process of discussing the damange we have done,” he said. Then, quoting Elin, he said the real apology won’t come in words, but “in my behavior over time.”
After their argument, Elin allegedly canceled her plans to fly with him to his rehab center, despites heated pleas from Woods, the UK tab reported.
Elin reportedly is still determined to end their relationship, the paper said. But she wants her husband to reconnect with the children.
But separate report by celebrity web site Radaronline suggested just the opposite.
It claimed Tiger and Elin played tennis together late Saturday afternoon before Elin joined him on his flight to the rehab center.
While not suggesting the marriage is back on, the developments indicate a thaw in their relationship, the Web site reported.
Why are you guys so behind with your information? Elin and Tiger had dinner together on Tuesday of last week. On Friday evening AFTER Tiger’s press statement, (according to the statements of reporters that were staking out Tiger’s gated community)Tiger and Elin were at their Windemere house together with the children for several hours until late in the evening. They played tennis together Saturday afternoon at the tennis courts located within their Windemere gated community, and then on Saturday evening Tiger, Elin, and their children all flew off together in their private jet after riding to the airport in separate cars. Tiger said in his statement that he was going back to rehab on Saturday, and Elin flew off with him on Saturday evening. Those UK news outlets don’t seem to be able to get their facts straight at all. They should just stick with the facts instead of making stuff up.
Tiger has apologized to everyone and accepted that what he did was very wrong. Tiger confirmed he needs help and that he is receiving rehab to address his issues. Tiger said he wants to regain balance in his life to save the two things that are most important to him, his wife and his children. Tiger said that Elin deserves praise and I agree wholeheartedly. I wish them all the best. It is time that Tiger and his family move on with their life and for the media to get off their back!!!
