In her first nomination, Sandra Bullock has won the best actress Academy Award for “The Blind Side,” an inspiring story about a young man who rises from an impoverished background and achieves his dream of becoming a pro football player.
Bullock, 45, was also the sentimental favorite to win the award and the Academy went with the flow again.
“The Blind Side,” written and directed by John Lee Hancock, is based on the 2006 book “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis.”
The storyline features Michael Oher, an offensive lineman for the Baltimore Ravens, who retraces his upbringing, through his years at an orphanage, his adoption by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, and finally becoming a top college football draft pick.
Sandra Bullock played Leigh and Tim McGraw played Sean Tuohy.
Ironically, Bullock also received the Worst Actress at the 2010 Golden Raspberry Awards on Saturday (Mar 6), just a day before she won the Oscar.
Bullock picked up the spoof movie trophy for her part in “All About Steve,” which she also co-produced. “The Miss Congeniality” actress received a standing ovation as she took the stage to pick up her Razzie, a trouper to the end.
Her filmography is long and her total box office gross for all her films as of 2009 is more than $3.1 billion worldwide.
