Heidi Klum led an all-star cast of models, including Alessandra Ambrosio, Selita Ebanks, Marissa Miller, Alessandra Ambrosio, Ana Beatriz Barros and Candice Swanepoeland at the 2009 Victoria’s Fashion Show in New York.
The show was taped this week, and although the highly-anticipated fashion extravaganza won’t air on CBS until Dec. 1, Victoria’s Secret provided a little sneak peek by releases a series of stunning photos.
The costumes are as extravagant as ever, but the lingerie maker played down the wings theme this year.
Klum made an appearance, as promised even though just six weeks ago, she gave birth to baby boy, Lou Samuel, with UK soul singer Seal.
Klum, a veteran Victoria’s Secret catwalker said the models in this year’s show seemed to be far more confident, and “cooler” than she was at her first show,
“It’s like, if a boob pops out, it’s no biggie,” said Ebanks, another veteran, echoing that mood.
Model Marisa Miller had to be sweating a little, however. She was picked to wear a special “Fantasy Bra.” It’s encrusted with more than 150 carats of diamonds and is estimated to cost $3 million.
The models cruised down the runway to the sounds of the Black Eyed Peas, in elaborate costumes that will never see the inside of a bedroom. But the show did give a hint of what’s to come in the upcoming catalogue.
But all eyes were also focused on Klum, who has had a bit of a rough year, because of a controversy over her weight in Germany that became an international story.
“Heidi is superwoman. She had a baby a few weeks ago and she is hosting the most high profile fashion show in the world,” Ed Razek, Victoria’s Secret president and chief marketing officer said before the show.
“Victoria’s Secret is thrilled to have her back. There is no one like her,” he added.
Klum said she planned “to take it easy and see what happens,” after delivering Lou, her fourth child, last month. In photos released today, she appeared to wear a shape covering costume.
“She can do it all,” says fellow Angel (and new mom) Alessandra Ambrosio. “She’s a great mom and she’s got so much going on. She’s an inspiration.”
Heidi Klum was featured in a nude photo spread in the March 2009 issue of German GQ and recently published a book of nude photos.
But at the time, a top German designer and modeling agency head called her “too fat” to be a supermodel, and legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld dismissed her as a nobody.
But Klum sent a different message during the show: She’s still got it.
