More than 1,500 people have called the ABC television network to complain about Adam Lambert’s sexually charged performance at the American Music Awards Sunday night, said ABC today (Nov. 23).
A network spokesperson called the number of complaints ”moderate.”
Before his performance, Lambert said that he wanted to break down a double standard that existed where female performers are often sexually provocative while men don’t do it that often.
There were also hostile comments online about the “American Idol” glam rocker.
He sang his new song “For Your Entertainment” with an elaborate, S&M-themed staging. Lambert fondled a dancer, led another around on a leash, had a dancer briefly stick his head in Lambert’s crotch and kissed a man on the lips.
Lambert not only seems determined to flaunt his sexuality, he appeared determined to make hard-core sadomasochism an element of his act as well, and some fear it played to negative gay stereotypes.
TheImproper reported earlier on Lambert’s performance and the reaction by readers has been mixed.
“I watched Adam’s performance from last night and I am not even going to comment as I don’t think any comments are necessary,” one reader commented.
“I went from loving Adam’s “Time for Miracles” to WTF? I am still shaking my head. He has a beautiful voice when he chooses to use it. That’s really all I’ll say,” the reader added.
Lambert drew fire earlier when he released the cover art for his new album.
Adam sported frosty pink Angelina Jolie-ish pouty lips, neon blue hair, striking eye make-up and a gloved right hand pressed against his face in an “Oh My” expression on backdrop of the cosmos.
To assuage critics and disappointed fans, Adam was forced to take to Twitter and let it be known that he want the art to be “deliberately campy” to pay tribute to the ’80s which inspired his album.

I loved him on american odol. I now seen the real ADAM and have no RESPECT for him now. He should be banned from television until he learns how to keep things in a family oriented way. He is no role model for any of our children.
