New York’s Javits Center played host to amazing artwork from more than 100 painters, photographers, sculptors and artists working in mixed media at the 2012 Contemporary Art Fair NYC, which took place Oct. 19-21.
The third annual event also featured speakers who instructed collectors, artists and students about both practical and theoretical art-related subjects.
Modern Art Takes Center Stage
The Contemporary Art Fair NYC ran in conjunction with the American Craft Show NYC, which showcased recognized jewelry, furniture, fashion, ceramics, glass, wood, metal and textile artisans.
Some standout pieces included mixed-media sculptures by Lila Turjanski-Villard, an Argentina-born artist who creates sculptures made of eclectic materials such as paper and wire, and whimsical abstract paintings by Jeffrey Bisaillon, a self-taught artist who has been painting for 15 years.
The stunning array of different color palettes, themes, and images showcased was a testament not only to personal talent, but to the individual artist’s complex inner monologue, which can best be summed up by the following Jackson Pollock quote:
“Today painters do not have to go to a subject matter outside of themselves. Most modern painters work from a different source; they work from within.”
