Anna Kournikova never did much for tennis on court, but she’s done a lot for the game off-court. In her latest revealing photo spread she keeps the glamour quotient high amid the sweaty grunting at the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament in New York City.
The dazzling 31-year-old former pro tennis player from Russia is one of the best known female stars to ever play the game and not win a single WTA tournament.
You know she’s secured a place in pop culture history when a barroom drink is named after her. It’s a variation of a White Russian, with vodka, Kahlúa or Tia Maria and skim milk. A Texas hold em’ poker hand is also named after her.

It involves ace and king hole cards that are in different suits. It looks good but never wins, as the saying goes, just like Anna. It may also have something to do with her on-again, off-again relationship with Enrique Iglesias. They’ve been together for 10 years, but have no plans to marry.
In the latest photo spread, she poses for Maxim magazine’s Australian edition. Although she now makes her home in Florida and her younger brother just became a naturalized U.S. citizen, Anna is well aware of the other Russian Anna, that is, Anna Chapman the spy.
“I am for peace and truth and honesty, and I don’t think I could keep my cover up if I were a spy. I tend to give too many things away with my eyes. Having said that… maybe I am!” she laughed.
Suprisingly, tennis isn’t her favorite sport. She says she follows soccer and loves the Miami Heat, her hometown NBA team.
And she’s not ready to join Sports Illustrated and pronounce Serena Williams the world’s best female tennis player ever.
“Obviously you can’t forget people like Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf. When I beat Steffi, I was the happiest person in the world. I was like, ‘I can’t believe this is happening to me and I’m only 16 years old!'”
Yes, she really did beat Steffi Graff… on-court and off-court. Just check out her photos.
