Alessandra Ambrosio Weighs in on Model Weight Debate (photos)

alessandra-coverTop model Alessandra Ambrosio has been reluctantly dragged into the debate over too-thin models. She was cited on ABC News recently to illustrate a body shape that was described as a “pre-pubescent teenager.”

But the 29-year-old Victoria’s secret model took the comparison with Sports Illustrated cover girl Brooklyn Decker and plus-size model Crystal Renn in stride. They were snapped on a photo shoot together.

“I’ve been tiny since I was four, and I eat whatever I want,” she told WWD in a new interview. “All that matters is that I stay healthy.”

Nonetheless, Ambrosio tells the magazine that she works hard to stay in shape.

She also thinks the media is too hypercritical of models. “If I’m two pounds heavier, I’m fat. If I’m skinnier, I’m sick. It’s ridiculous,” she said. “And that’s not coming from agents or designers,” she says.

Ambrosio regimen includes Pilates, yoga and running, and when she needs to tighten up a bit — for a swimsuit shoot or for the Victoria’s Secret’s runway show — she works with personal trainer Leandro Carvalho, who created the Brazil Butt Lift workout.

She worked with the trainer after she gained 40 pounds during her pregnancy, and got back in Victoria’s secret shape in about two months.

Check out her recent photo shoot for French Elle. And read more about her in WWD.

she is pretty but I think her face does look a little gaunt lately. I preferred her look in the VSFS 2008, months after her baby!!! she looked amazing. In this past victorias secret show, you could tell the difference…she still is incredible looking, all Im saying is it wouldn’t hurt for her to gain a few.

Alessandra is in the best possible shape for her body make-up and heredity. With her modeling schedule and being a mom, Alessandra must stay healthy. She has proven she can handle all of what is thrown at her. I have been in personal fitness all my life (35 years) and she exemplifies true physical fitness.
