Emily Blunt Co-Stars in Sci-Fi Action-Adventure

Tom Cruise is battling aliens again in a new sci-fi action adventure that has a familiar ring to it.

Tom Cruise is not a soldier, he’s a one-man weapon in a new trailer for his upcoming sci-fi thriller “Edge of Tomorrow.” If the concept seems familiar that’s because it has one big thing in common with Bill Murray’s adroit 1993 comedy “Groundhog Day.” Cruise is stuck in a time loop.

The trailer also features a very hot looking Emily Blunt, not known for taking parts in action movies.

Cruise’s character, William Cage, is caught in a time warp as the planet rallies to fight off an alien invasion. He’s forced to fight the same battle over and over again with the same result–he gets blasted.

Blunt’s character Rita Vrataski, is caught in the same time-loop, but there is method to this madness. Each time they are recycled to fight the battle again, the get closer and closer to figuring out how to defeat the enemy.

Cruise is always a powerful persona in his movies, but Blunt brings a ferocity to the screen that may eclipse the aging action star.

Hiroshi Sakurazaka and Yoshitoshi ABe wrote the “illustrated novel” (read comic book) “All You Need to Kill,” on which the movie is based. Director Doug Liman takes it from there with a screenplay adapted by Dante Harper.

Cruise seems to be hook on the sci-fi genre. His last film “Oblivion” was also set in a post-apocalyptic future featuring an alien invasion. His film before that, 2012’s “Jack Reacher,” was a fantasy action film.

“Edge of Tomorrow” blasts into theaters June 6, 2014.
