“Suicide Squad,” the new David Ayer film starring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Joel Kinnaman, sets a new standard for dark, freakish comic book movies. Scenes from the crime noir movie were revealed for the first time at Comic Con in San Diego.

The film is Warner Bros,’s. bid to crash the comic book movie genre dominated with great success by Disney and Marvel Comics.

Apparently, Warner decided to go bigger, badder and darker. The new “Suicide Squad” trailer delivers on all counts. Ayer described the film in one interview as “a Dirty Dozen with super villains.”

Smith and crew are joined in the film by Jai Courtney, Viola Davis and big-screen newcomer, model Cara Delevingne.

Leto’s psychopathic super villain sets the tone for the clip when he utters “Oh, I’m not gonna kill you. I’m just gonna hurt you really, really badly.”

In the clip, Smith plays Deadshot, Robbie is Harley Quin, Kinnaman is military man Rick Flagg, Courtney is Boomerang, an Aussie assassin; Delevingne plays sorceress Enchantress and Davis is Amanda Waller.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje looks ferocious as Killer Croc, who has reptilian features thanks to a skin disease. Karen Fukuhara is Katana, a martial arts expert. Adam Beach is Slipknot and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo.

The super villains are pulled out of notorious super high-security prison by Waller who heads a super secret government agency, according to the movie’s synopsis. They’re enlisted to fight for the “good guys,” although the lines of good and evil are often blurred.
