“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is trying to go where only comic book superhero movies have gone by creating an “anthology” of Star Wars movies that play off the original series while minting new stars and new characters who can carry on the legacy.

A new trailer for the movie debuted today (Apr 7) on “Good Morning America” (GMA) and introduces a cast of new characters.

The cast includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Riz Ahmed.

It’s the first the first Star Wars Anthology film, that stand-alone, although it’s based in the Star Wars universe, of storm troopers, death stars, the rebellion and the force.

The movie takes place following the foundation of the Galactic Empire. Rebel fighters join to carry out a desperate mission. They want to steal the plans for the Death Star before it can be built and used to enforce the Emperor’s rule, according to the official synopsis.

One look at the new trailer and it’s clear, the movie is attempting to capitalize on the appetite of fans for any “Star Wars” movie, no matter who’s in it.

The original Star War’s franchise was rebooted with the release earlier this year of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the seventh movie in the series. A sequel is already in the works.

It tied into the original series by including the film’s original heroes Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and a brief cameo by Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.

Those characters are absent from “Rogue One,” but we get a whole new set of heroes as in Jyn Erso, (Felicity Jones), who seems to be rebelling for the hell of it. She’s featured in the new clip.
