If the movie sounds a little “Glee” like, that’s because it is. It’s about an all-girls a cappella college group who remake themselves to compete in a championship against boy groups.
Kendra plays Becca, the new girl in the group, who wants to amp-up the music and give the girls a hipper sound, hence the plunge into Minaj’s repertoire.
The film is based on the non-fiction book by the same name by Mickey Rapkin a GQ magazine staffer, who spent a season covering competitive collegiate a cappella groups.
Members of the public submitted YouTube videos of themselves singing the song that were incorporated into the video.
