Leonardo DiCaprio Fights for Global Warming Bill (video)

leonardo_dicaprioActor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio has rounded up a few friends to deliver a message to the U.S. Senate — stop dawdling on pollution control and climate change.

“There is a bill in the United States Senate that we need to pay attention to,” says DiCaprio, He’s urging the public to contact lawmakers to lobby for passage of a bill known as the “Clean Energy, Jobs and American Power Act. ”

He’s filmed a series of videos and enlisted the support of actors Edward Norton, Forest Whitaker and Chace Crawford.

“Desperate Housewives” star Felicity Huffman, Justin Long and Emmy Rossum also take part. The stars address viewers in short commercials for what’s called the “This Is Our Moment” campaign.

The measure in question is designed to cut U.S. reliance on foreign oil supplies, and increase the use of sustainable energy sources. Senate Republicans have become a major obstacle to Democratically sponsored legislation, blocking votes on almost every bill.

“We’re going to be watching all you senators, very closely,” the “Revolutionary Road” actor says.

The video provides a web link for information on how to email politicians to voice support for the bill. It also provides instructions on how to pass on the message via social networking sites including Twitter and Facebook.
