Demi Lovato Pours Emotion Into New Video 'Skyscraper' (watch!)

Demi Lovato reaches deep to express the heartache of a breakup (or is that break down?) in the video for her new single “Skyscraper.” It’s Lovato raw and emotional.

The Disney darling has had enough emotional ups and downs recently to draw from.

She melted down during a tour with the Jonas Brothers in South America after punching back up dancer Alex Shorty Welch.

She left the tour for rehab to deal with anger management and rumored drug and alcohol issues.

Afterward, she acknowledged being bipolar.

But that was then.

The song, the first official single from her new album, due this year, marks her comeback.

Although written before her breakdown, the song sends a message about the ability to rise above your problems.

For a song titled “Skyscraper,” the video, oddly enough, on a barren and limitless looking desert. And it stays there.

Lovato, 18, is dressed in a flowing white dress walking on a dirt road.

The desert is a metaphor for the emptiness she felt, and she sings with passion and emotion.

But the song ultimately has a positive message.

Lovato likens herself to a “Skyscraper” that rises up and towers over her problems.

You can take everything I have

You can break everything I am

Like I’m made of glass

Like I’m made of paper, Oh

Go on and try to tear me down

I will be rising from the ground

Like a skyscraper!

“For me it was… so symbolic, it being the song I recorded before treatment and yet it was providing a message,” Demi told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show.

“It’s so crazy the way things played out, that it ended up being my symbol and it represented what I’m trying to spread the word about—getting help and rising above any issues that [I and] my fans are dealing with.”
