Nicki Minaj challenges Katy Perry as the queen of candy-colored videos with a new release for her song “The Boys.” The rapper gets lost in a world of pink polka dots, streets cars and boys dressed in pink suits. And she has her very own Barbie Doll.
Casandra Elizabeth Ventura, Cassie for short, is featured in the video, helping Nicki tease the boys.
Cassie, 26, an R&B singer, model, dancer and actress, provides an interesting contrast to diminutive rapper. As eye-candy goes, she’s the Jeff to her Mutt.
The video opens on the front page of a newspaper with an alarming story about a barbershop burning down topped by a picture of Minaj, her mouth agape. The scene cuts to her peering over her shoulder into the camera looking more than a little guilty.
Minaj literally paints the two pink as she vamps with half a dozen different hair styles.
Colin Tilley called the shots to create a wonder world of bright pastels, bold primary colors and hyper-kinetic energy. He’s worked with a slew of artists including Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Diddy, Usher, Melanie Fiona, Keri Hilson and Wiz Khalifa among others.
Nicki is more than hot in the video. She sets her surroundings on fire with a flame thrower.
