Cuba Gooding Jr. and former Miss America Vanessa Williams will add more starpower to the 14-week run of Horton Foote classic The Trip to Bountiful. Grand Dame Cicley Tyson is already on board for the play.
Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad rounds out the new additions. She’s appeared in Lifetime’s “Steel Magnolias” and Broadway’s Stick Fly.
The play revolves around Carrie Watts (Tyson), an elderly woman who dreams of returning to her small hometown of Bountiful, TX one last time. Her overly protective son (Gooding) and domineering daughter-in-law (Williams) are against the trip for fear of reopening old wounds.
The journey is a heartbreaking but ultimately life-affirming and inspiring tale that examines the fragility of memory and celebrates the enduring power of hope and faith, according to the show.
Gooding adds Hollywood flash to the production. He most recently appeared in “Red Tails,” about the first African American fighter pilots, known as the Tuskegee Airmen, in World War II. He’s appeared in a slew of films including his 1991 hit “Jerry Maguire” with Tom Cruise, for which he won a supporting actor Oscar.

Her next film, Tyler Perry’s “Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor” will be released March 29th.
The 14-week limited engagement will begin previews Easter Sunday, Mar. 31 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, 124 W 43rd St. Opening night is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23rd.
