Goulding, 27, played for a sold out crowd at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden. Singer Conway opened for her.
Goulding was courting controversy by wearing a bindi, which has religious significance to Hindus. Gomez wore a bindi when she performed at the MTV Music Video Awards last August.
She used East India dance themes for her song “Come and Get It,” and drew protests from Hindu groups afterward. They said her bindi insulted their religion.
Even so, she wore one again at the Billboard Music Awards. Maybe Ellie was showing solidarity with Selena.
Ellie’s outfit was actually a full bodysuit of sheer fabric with blue panels covering her private parts and black straps criss-crossing her body. Call it Jane Jetson meets Tron.
She performed almost non-stop with hits like “Lights,” “Anything Could Happen” and “I Need Your Love,” a collaboration with DJ Calvin Harris.
She also covered Elton John’s “Your Song” and James Blake’s “Life Round Here.”
Goulding’s “Beating Heart,” “Dead in the Water” and “Hanging On,” from her second studio album, 2012’s Halycon, are featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming movie “Divergent.”
At the 2014 BRIT Awards, she was named Best British Female artist.
