Although only 23, Watson is a film veteran after a ten-year run in the “Harry Potter” series that began when she was nine years old.
No wonder she feels like she has a lot in common with another child star. Elizabeth Taylor.
“I remember reading this thing that Elizabeth Taylor wrote. She had her first kiss in character. On a movie set,” she tells the magazine.
“It really struck me. I don’t know how or why, but I had this sense that if I wasn’t really careful, that could be me.
“That my first kiss could be in somebody else’s clothes. And my experiences could all belong to someone else,” she explains.
Because she is so identified as a child actress, Watson has had to find herself all over again as a young adult. That makes her jealous of other Young Hollywood actresses around her age, like Jennifer Lawrence, Shailene Woodley and Emma Stone.
“There are all these actresses who have emerged in the last year or two, and they get to emerge as this complete human being. And I’m so jealous,” she says.
Watson purposely took it slow in Hollywood after the Harry Potter series ended. She spent a few semesters in college and only took small roles.
But she’s been spreading her wings lately, with films like “The Perks of Being a Wall Flower” and the even more daring “The Bling Ring.”
She gets to do some serious drama in Darren Aronofsky’s highly-anticipated film “Noah,” based on the Bible’s Book of Genesis.
“It’s Shakesperean, what happens to this family when they’re put in this confined space for 40 days and 40 nights,” she says.
“It’s the end of the world – how these different human beings are dealing with the impact of that. Are humans good? Are we bad? All of these themes are epic.”
