Officially, her tour said Miley was suffering from the flu, and she Tweeted yesterday that she was in “excruciating pain.”
But Miley’s energetic shows, combined with the strain on her vocal chords from singing night-after-night and heavy partying may be taking an unexpected toll on the “Can’t Be Tamed” singer, a source told TheImproper.
Miley, 21, is suffering from “serious throat and sinus” issues, according to E! News. Those symptoms, however, aren’t normally associated with the flu.
At the same time, Miley has publicly admitted consuming large quantities of pot and has worked marijuana into her stage persona much like rival singer Rihanna.
Wiz Khalifa, who has worked with Miley, told Arsenio Hall last week (Mar. 31) that Miley smokes pot so much she’s “blowin’ like a train.”
“Like, she’s just a ball of energy, you know what I mean? And she smokes a ton,” he said. “Every five minutes she kept being like, ‘Wiz, you don’t have a joint rolled? What’s up?'”
As part of her act, she wears a body suit with marijuana leaf print and she was recently photographed with a huge blunt in her hand for cover art for a remix of one of her songs.
But one of the down-sides of smoking pot is the effect it has on your throat and lungs. Like cigarette smokers, marijuana users can develop throat irritation, coughs and lung inflammation, according to medical research.
Smoke from a joint is hot and unfiltered and contain harsh chemicals other than the active ingredient THC. Given the strain already on her vocal chords, heavy pot use could worsen any condition she might have.
That’s because it is highly irritating to the lining of the respiratory tract, according to medical references.
The singer is expected to resume her tour in Raleigh, North Carolina, today (Apr. 8). For the latest on Miley Cyrus’s Bangerz Tour follow TheImproper on Twitter.
