Taylor Momsen and her band, The Pretty Reckless, hit New York City last night (Apr. 16) for a concert in Brooklyn that was, well, pretty reckless. She rocked out with hits off her latest album, Going to Hell.
The album, which hit the streets last month, firmly establishes Momsen as a legitimate rock act.
The album hit No. 5 on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart and the lead single “Heaven Knows” has been the No. 1 rock song in the country for five consecutive weeks, she tweeted.
Momsen, 20, is only the second female singer to top the Mainstream Rock Songs chart in the last 24 years, according to Billboard.
Her first album, 2011’s Light Me Up fizzled.
Critics mostly dismissed her as a poser. At the time, she was better known for her role on the CW series “Gossip Girl,” where she played a snotty Upper East Sider. She starred in the series from 2007 to 2012.
She quit the show to devote herself full-time to music, a move that has paid off. She signed with Interscope Records in 2009.
Momsen hit the stage last night without her signature raccoon-style eye-makeup and was fairly conservatively dress. Maybe now that she’s a legitimate rock act, she’s cleaning up her act.
