Geldof, 25, spent most of her teens and early 20s living what she called a “life of wanton wanderlust.”
She partied hard around the world lost, as she said, “in a haze of youth and no responsibilities.” She was an experienced drug user, who appeared to know her limits.
But Geldof recently went on a crash diet and lost a tremendous amount of weight. That may have lowered her body’s tolerance to heroin, leading to an accidental overdose. Or she might have picked up a particularly potent strain.
On the first day of her inquest, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Fotheringham testified that “recent use of heroin and the levels identified were likely to have played a role in her death,” according to London’s Daily Mail.
Oddly, nothing seemed out of the ordinary in the last few days of her life. Husband, Thomas Cohen, took their two sons and spent the weekend at his parent’s house in Southeast London.
Peaches is thought to have spent the weekend alone at their house in Wrotham, Kent, about about 30 miles southeast of London. Her last contact with someone was by telephone at 7:45pm, Sunday, Fotheringham testified.
“All of the friends and family who had contact with Peaches during this period described how she seemed her normal self and was making plans for the future, including a family outing for her sons for the following weekend,” he said. “There was no cause for concern.”
Although she said her life had changed after the birth of her two sons, Peaches said she was haunted by the death of her mother, Paula Yates.
She died from an accidental heroin overdose when Peaches was 11-years-old, following a bitter split from her father, UK musician Bob Geldof. The divorce, Peaches said, affected her tremendously.
Still, after she gave birth to two sons, Astala and Phaedra, all she could talk about was her family.
“When I had two wailing, smiling, joyful little blobs of waddling pink flesh, they became my entire existence, and saved me from one of pure apathy,” she wrote.
“I had the perfect life — two beautiful babies who loved me more than anything. It was, and is, bliss.”
