Pattinson, who turned 28 May 13, hit the Croisette in high spirits.
For the first time, he’s receiving critical raves for one of his films. Early reviews have been mostly positive. One French publication gushed that the film was “hypnotic,” “remarkable,” “exquisite,” “a masterpiece.”
The online site had especially glowing words for Pattinson.
“Here he gives a fantastic performance in the complex role of a simple-minded but not dumb, worthy of a 4-star Actors Studio actor and it places him as one of the most amazing actors of his generation,” wrote Filmosphere France.
Another review also had high praises for the actor. “Pattinson pulls off nervous twitching, shoddy posture and general writhing to great effect; his character’s a typical fool and he plays it so,” beamed MoviePilot
“The Rover,” which also stars Guy Pearce was shown at a special screening. The official screening will be held today at 4:30pm Eastern time (10:30pm in France). Red carpet arrivals begin at 10pm.
Pattinson landed in Cannes on Friday (May 16) and he was spotted at the Vanity Fair and Armani Party, Saturday (May 17) in Cap d’Antibes, France.
He was photographed paling around with Liam Hemsworth who is promoting “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Pt. 1” with Jennifer Lawrence and other cast members.
Although sketchy tabloid Web sites have been harping about a possible Cannes reunion with Kristen Stewart, that was never in the cards from the get go. Rob will have left the festival by the time Kristen arrives.
Rob is set to be in Paris on May 21 while Kristen is scheduled to arrive in Cannes on May 22, if she even goes at all.
Their schedules were known weeks ago, but that hasn’t prevented a lot of feckless, false tabloid speculation.
