Penn, 53, and Theron, 38, have been a couple officially since the first of the year. They confirmed their relationship at Penn’s Haiti fundraiser on Jan. 11.
They aren’t exactly a match made in heaven. Penn is a gun nut who has bragged about owning 67 firearms, according to Piers Morgan, who interviewed the couple. Theron’s mother shot and killed her father.
Penn is also notorious for his explosive temper and hate for the paparazzi. He’s even assaulted tourists who have tried to take his photo.
Last November, he bullied and berated a fan with a camera in the public lobby of the tony St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco. Someone else in the lobby caught the whole thing on video and it went viral.
Now, suddenly, Theron is spouting the same venom. The actress was on the UK’s Sky News to promote her new film, “A Million Ways To Die In The West.”
The subject came up when the interviewer mentioned that he had done an online search for some background.
“Never do that,” Charlize interjected. “That’s such a bad idea.”
The interviewer brought up the issue of intrusive press coverage after reading off some headlines, which, he noted, seemed personal.
“I think it’s when you start living in that world and doing that, that you start… it gets feeling raped?” she said, searching for a word.
“That strong?” he replied.
“Well you know when it comes to your son and your private life maybe that’s just me. There are certain things in my life that I think of as very sacred and I’m very protective of,” she explained.
Although her intentions may have been benign, her choice of words touched off a hail of criticism. Several women’s organizations questioned her analogy.
