Pattinson, who turned 28 earlier this month, spent two months in the harsh Australian outback filming the movie.
Afterward, he said it changed him as an actor.
“You definitely end up making a different movie. Being in the desert has a funny effect. It does change you in a way,” he said in an interview at the time.
“Being covered in dirt, pouring sweat, with tons of flies around, you lose your inhibitions quite quickly,” he said.
Rob has been trying to break away from his image as vampire Edward Cullen in the hit “Twilight” series. He’s also been trying to establish himself as a serious actor.
In “The Rover” he plays a slightly slow-witted brother to a gang member in a gritty post-apocalyptic world where law and order have broken down.
He’s wounded during a robbery and left for dead. The robbery victim, a gritty loner played by Guy Pearce patches him up. They form an uneasy alliance as they search for the gang.
The film screened at the Cannes International Film Festival and Pattinson received solid reviews for his acting.
