Presley wore an almost identical blue suit for a photo session used for cover art for his The Elvis Presley Gospel Collection album.
Elvis later gave the suit to a friend, Bob Luman, who first met Presley at the “Louisiana Hayride,” a popular radio and later television show that ran from 1948 to 1960.
The show, which aired from Shreveport, LA, hosted some of the biggest names in country music. Elvis made his first television appearance on the “Louisiana Hayride” on March 3, 1955, according to a history of the show.
His blue suit is just like Rob’s. A coincidence? Rob has been said to exude the same charisma as Elvis.
Luman eventually gave the suit to Ernie Ashworth for his Country Music Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. It included a letter of authenticity.
Oddly, the suit was recently put up for auction as part of a collection of Elvis memorabilia. It was expected to sell for $10,000 to $12,000, but go no takers, according to the auction site.
Rob fueled some Internet chatter about his choice of outfits and whether he pulled it off or it was a fashion fail.
Rob definitely channeled Elvis in that suit. So we’d have to call it a fashion win. It was probably made by Dior. Rob tends to favor the brand.
Check out the photos and see Elvis’s identical suit! Strange or what?
