After 10 years going solo in the woods, apes re-establish contact with humans. It doesn’t go well in a new trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Gary Oldman leads a pack of surviving humans bent on revenge in the latest and final trailer for “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” the second film in the 20th Century Fox reboot of the sci-fi series. It’s hard to tell who the real beasts are.

The apes, led by Caesar, take on more and more human qualities, including the ability to wage war.

Meanwhile, the humans appear to be degenerating into a pack of wild beasts after their numbers are decimated by a deadly virus that gave the apes intelligence.

But is there room enough on the planet for two intelligent species? That’s the central question in the movie, and it doesn’t go well, according to the trailer.

Like any conflict, there are factions on both sides. One believes war is not the answer. But hardliners want to fight it out. The trailer promises an explosive conflict.

The apes have moved so far along the evolutionary path, they are now domesticating other animals and have learned to ride horses. Next, they figure out how to use human weapons.

There appears to be no stopping these apes. They exert their superiority because they don’t need “power, lights, heat, nothing,” says a human survivor in a voice over.

The apes have apparently been living, and multiplying! for ten years without human contact. When they come into chance contact with a few survivors the clash of species begins.

The movie also stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano and Kirk Acevedo.

As always, the special effects are dramatic.
