Julianne Hough opened up about her failed relationship with “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest, and inadvertently or not, she fueled new speculation about Seacrest’s sexual orientation.

Seacrest, 39, and Hough dated for more than two years.

But the way Hough explains it in the latest issue of Redbook magazine, there never really was a spark between them.

“There was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right,” she tells the magazine.

Although she partly blames herself, she suggests that there was never any passion in the relationship.

“I had one foot out because I didn’t want to get hurt. And I didn’t say what was on my mind because I didn’t want to ruffle any feathers.”

She contrasts her experience with her new boyfriend, macho hockey man Brooks Laich.

“Now I’m not holding anything back, because I’d rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love,” she said.

Speculation about Seacrest’s sexuality has been rampant for years. His “American Idol” cohort Simon Cowell didn’t help.

Cowell constantly joked about Seacrest’s sexuality on the show. Ryan occasionally fired back, but not too convincingly.

At 39, Seacrest has never been married. He began dating Hough in April 2010, and it was his only widely acknowledged relationship.

They broke up in March last year.

Seacrest is known to be a workaholic, so maybe he’s married to his job.
