Joan Rivers, who has a large gay following, nonetheless, used gay terms to bash President Obama and wife Michelle Obama, not only insulting the chief executive and first lady, but outraging gays for slurring members of their community.

Rivers, who is known for her acerbic comments, leveled the diss in an impromptu interview that was caught on video.

As the 81-year-old comedian was exiting a car and entering a building, a cameraman recorded the scene and shouted out a question.

“Do you think the United States will see the first gay president or the first woman president,” the cameraman asked.

“We already have it with Obama,” she replied. “So let’s just calm down.”

Then she volunteered without prompting: “You know Michelle is a tranny.”

The photographer, seemingly shocked by the statement replied, “I’m sorry, she’s a what?”

“… A transgender, we all know it,” Rivers said. “It’s ok.”

It’s hard to tell whether she was joking, or having a senior moment. She made the remarks in a totally serious, deadpan way.

Beside trying to insult the president, Rivers let down her gay fans. To use gay terms to put someone down is totally homophobic.

Rivers should know better. Not funny.
