Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson star in the film adaption of E.L. James’ nove ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, who star in the hot erotic drama “Fifty Shades of Grey,” made their first appearance together on the “Today Show” this morning (July 24) and nervously sat through the first trailer, sanitized for television.

The full trailer, with a nsfw ending was released on the Internet simultaneously, kicking off the movie’s official marketing effort.

The movie is currently slated for release the weekend of Valentine’s Day next year. Will it be the year’s biggest date movie, or will it be too steamy to sit through?

Author E. L. James provided the source material for the film, which is based on her best-selling novel of the same name. The work explores themes of power and control expressed through the wildly successful Christian Grey’s (Dornan) sexual fetishes.

The man who has everything must also possess Anastasia Steele (Johnson), a young naive college student who becomes infatuated with Grey.

It would be easy to blow-off the film as a male fantasy, except for the fact that the book and screenplay were written by women, and another woman, Sam Taylor-Johnson, directed it.

The trailer shows Anastasia meeting Christian for the first time to interview him. She looks like the dowdy college kid. She’s floored when Grey takes an interest in her.

She’s shy without a lot of confidence, but Grey decides he must have her. In the next scene they are at dinner. He reveals his need to control everything, including her.

He’s obsession with control includes his taste for sexual fetishes the requires her to submit to his whims.

Johnson said nothing was sexy or romantic about shooting the films love scenes. She called them “technical and choreographed.”

Johnson, who is the daughter of actors, Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, said she would want her parents to see the movie.

“If it were them doing the movie, I wouldn’t want to see that,” she said.
