‘Game of Thrones’ Incest Blamed on Gays by Conservative Activist, WTF?

“Game of Thrones” depicts a fantasy world where life is nasty, brutish and short. But a conservative activist claimed today (July 24) a direct connection between the show’s incest scenes and today’s permissive attitudes about homosexuality.

Media Matters For America, a non-profit progressive research and information group, condemned the attack.

The group is calling attention to an article written by noted homophobic activist Michael Brown. He warns of looming “sexual anarchy” and the “normalization of incest.”

The popular HBO show is cited as proof positive that the nation is on that slope now, according to Media Matters spokeswoman Laura Keiter.

Forget for a moment that “Game of Thrones” is pure fiction.

Brown argues that permissive attitudes about homosexuality, such as gay marriage, are creating a “slippery slope” that will lead to the popularization of incest and other Biblical sexual taboos.

“Gay activists constantly tell us that there’s no such thing as a slippery moral slope and that the acceptance of homosexuality will not lead to the acceptance of other sexual practices, such as incest,” he argues.

“Our current condition is sexual anarchy, where men can have sex with men just as well with women; where sex outside of wedlock is just as acceptable as sex within wedlock; where marriage doesn’t necessarily mean monogamy and where longstanding social taboos are cast off,” he adds.

Brown also blames the media, although what it has to do with television production is problematic. “With increasing frequency and openness, the media are now promoting and even celebrating incest,” he writes.

In “Games of Thrones,” Queen Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) is involved in an incestuous relationship with twin brother Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).

Even in the Seven Kingdoms, however, such a relationship is considered scandalous and punishable by death.

MTV is about to launch a new dramedy titled “Happyland,” about teens working at a carnival. It will also reportedly deal with sexual themes, including incest.

“The ‘slippery slope’ argument is a common conservative horror story about the danger of tolerating LGBT people. It’s also a complete fabrication,” said the group in a statement.

The “slippery slope” argument is only troubling for people who can’t distinguish fact from fantasy,” the statement said.
