Miley was apparently enjoying a day off in New York City between tour engagements in Pittsburgh and North Carolina.
So she dropped in on local tattoo shop Bang Bang Tattoo Inc. on Clinton St. in Manhattan. Artist Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy is a favorite among celebrities.
He’s inked such notables as Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Katy Perry and model/socialite Cara Delevingne, who is best buds now with Selena Gomez.
McCurdy often lets celebrities tattoo him as sort of a scrap book and he and Miley exchanged tattoos. She got a small crescent moon on the inside of her left arm and McCurdy got the same tattoo on his thumb.
But does Miley realized what it symbolizes? The earliest civilizations known used the crescent as a symbol. It usually has a tie-in with religions, and is best known as a symbol of Islam.
But it also has meaning in Catholicism. It’s a symbol of the Virgin Mary in the Book of Revelations. It’s doubtful Miley had that in mind.
Moon tattoos in popular culture are also thought to symbolize dreams, intuition, feminine power, sensuality, mysticism and fertility among other concepts.
That’s probably more Miley’s speed. She called it a BFF tat and captioned the photo: “BFF tats with @bangbangnyc”
Miley also paid homage to The Flaming Lips with the tattoo “Love Yer Brain” across her arm. It refers to a song off their 1987 album Oh My Gawd!!!!.
In the past year, Miley has also gotten tattoos honoring her dog Floyd, her granny and her relationship with Liam Hemsworth (now ended).
