Demi Lovato opened the 2014 Teen Choice Awards with her power-pop anthem “Really Don’t Care,” walking through the crowd to the stage where she got an assist from singer Cher Lloyd.

The high-energy open whipped the crowd into a frenzy on a night when youth ruled Hollywood. Lovato’s song was all about female empowerment.

The song was nominated for “Choice Summer Song, and Demi scored the surfboard.

Although she is only 21, Demi is a veteran performer who began acting as a child and was for a time a Disney teen queen. After a rough patch, which included a stint in rehab, Demi has come back stronger than ever.

Lloyd, also 21, is a UK pop star, who had a hand in writing the song with Lovato, Carl Falk, Savan Kotecha and Rami Yacoub.

It was released in May and is the fourth single from Lovato’s fourth studio album, the self-titled Demi. It was released last May.

Lovato wore skinny black jeans, black combat boots, belts with giant Moschino logos. Cher wore bright gold print pants and a black crop top with chunky boots.
