The wedding was held Aug. 23, in Correns, France, at Château Miraval, but only announced today (Aug. 28).
Angelina and Brad bought the sprawling 35-room estate and vineyard in 2008, and have used it for private getaways.
The couple was able to avoid intrusive photographers with long lenses and helicopters buzzing the compound overhead. The wedding was announced in a simple statement to the Associated Press.
Jolie, 39, and Pitt, 50, have been together since 2005 and got engaged in 2012. Speculation about their marriage has been rife among the tabloids ever since.
The couple said they would get married when it felt right, but Brad acknowledged that they were feeling some pressure from their kids to tie the knot.
The couple has six children: Maddox, 13, Pax, 11, Zahara, 9, Shiloh, 8, and 6-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Three are biological and three are adopted.
Angelina and Brad are set to collaborate on “By the Sea,” their second movie together since their 2005 blockbuster, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Angelina wrote and will direct “By the Sea,” slated for release in 2015.
“I wrote something a few years ago for Brad and me,” Jolie said of the movie. “Just for fun. Just an independent little art piece. Because we don’t get to do those as much as we’d like.”
Jolie is doing well after undergoing a preventive double mastectomy in February 2013 after genetic testing revealed she had an 87 percent chance of developing breast cancer and a 50 percent chance of contracting ovarian cancer.
