Host Stephen Cobert made much ado about Lawrence’s film resume, although he was so clueless, he had to read from a sheet of paper.
“You are such a success at such a young age… couple of Oscars, couple of Golden Globes…” he went on.
“One… one Oscar” (for Silver Linings Playbook),” Lawrence corrected.
“One Oscar? You should have gotten two,” Colbert replied. “You were ripped off.”
That produced a laugh out of the young actress.
“But at this point, at 24, you could just start phoning it in right now,” he continued. “Because things are going so well, have you ever thought of just pulling the ripcord and going ‘I’m done?”
“I fell like it’s going to happen for me, so feel like I don’t have to do that… I’m constantly waiting for everything to fall apart,” she revealed.
“Every time my phone rings, I’m like, ‘It’s over!'” she said.
Colbert suggested hitting the road together to fight crime, since his Comedy Central show is winding down as well. That broke some of the tension and he follow up by asking how she compared with her “Hunger Games” character Katniss.
He noted that she grew up in Kentucky. “Isn’t that a little District Twelvey there?” he said. “Don’t you have coal mines there?”
