Charli, real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison, has actually been singing professionally in Britain since 2008 when she was a mere 16.
Now 22, the singer and songwriter announced in August that she will release her second major-label studio album, titled Sucker on Monday (Dec. 16). Her first studio album, True Romance, was released in April 2013.
“Boom Clap” is the first single off her new album. She has also released a second single “Break the Rules” ahead of the album release.
While Charli has had limited exposure on television, she’s been busy on the concert scene. She performed at the Z100 Jingle Ball in New York City on Friday (Dec. 12). She sang her new singles and filled in for another emerging UK singer, Rita Ora, on Iggy Azalea’s song “Fancy.”
Charli is also a BFF of Katy Perry and will open for the mega-star when her Prismatic World Tour hits the UK in February.
She gets her exotic look from a Scottish father and an Indian mother who grew up in Uganda. She also has a form of synesthesia that enables her to visualize music in different colors, according to her official bio.
The singer, who also goes by the moniker XCX, is also noted for her songwriting skills. She co-wrote Azalea’s breakout song “Fancy,” and co-wrote the song “I love It,” was was a breakout hit for Swedish duo Icona Pop.
If her hit song “Boom Clap” sounds familiar that’s because it was added to the soundtrack of Shailene Woodley’s movie, “The Fault in Our Stars.”
