Evin Cosby, 38, said in a statement released today (Dec. 16) that her dad “is the father you thought you knew.”
Her comments come on the heels of mom Camille Cosby’s similar defense of the comedian who said her husband was very much like the character he played in his hit sitcom “The Cosby Show.”
Cosby played the lovable Dr. Cliff Huxtable an obstetrician who lived with his family in New York City.
It was the first portrayal of an African-American family living in an upper-middleclass household. It also cemented Cosby’s reputation as a family man and role model.
“‘The Cosby Show’ was my today’s TV reality show,” Evin Cosby said to “Access Hollywood.”
But women, now numbering in the dozens, have come forward with a far different picture of the 77-year-old actor. They say he was a sexual predator for most of his career.
They tell similar stories of being lured into a secluded spot and drugged into unconsciousness, only to wake up naked, their clothes disheveled or in some other compromising position.
Can both images be real? Of course. It’s clear by now that Cosby suffers from a sexual addiction that grew worse as his fame spread and his reputation became almost unassailable.
He took advantage of his position and reputation to victimize vulnerable women who were hoping to get a break in show business with him. The signs of his sexual addiction are classic.
Cosby’s lawyer Marty Singer, has demanded that the allegations stop, as if he can will them away. But he can’t. Only Cosby can do that.
And the way to do it is for him to admit his illness, apologize to his victims and seek treatment. He’ll find out that people will forgive him.
