Italian style has always celebrated voluptuousness. Think Gina Lollobrigida, or Sophia Loren.
Minaj fits the bill and then some.
Cavalli reached back to the 1960s to inspire his new line an transforms Minaj into a ’60s soul diva. Think The Supremes, Gladys Knight and Martha and the Vandellas.
Nicki is photographed by Francesco Carrozzini, wearing flowing gowns in monochrome and vivid colors that tastefully show off her cleavage. Would they be Italian any other way.
In a statement, Cavalli had this to say:
“I chose Nicki Minaj because she embodies the exuberant and modern femininity of the Cavalli woman. In recent years we have become accustomed to women castigated in clothes that hide their body shapes. With this campaign, I wanted to send a strong counter trend message. I wanted a sensual woman who is aware of her body, who is not afraid to show her curves, rather she make them as a strength.”
Nicki follows in the footsteps of UK singer Rita Ora, who captured the spirit of another ’60s icon Marilyn Monroe for Cavalli’s fall 2014 campaign.
