Kristen Stewart has been on the talk show circuit promoting her new movie “Still Alice” and knocking down one tabloid fabrication after another. In an new interview with Seth Meyers she dispelled reports she’s trying to distance herself from “Twilight.”

Since the five-part series ended in 2012, Stewart has appeared in a string of indie films such as last year’s “Camp X-Ray,” “Clouds of Sils Maria” and “Still Alice.”

But she points out that “Twilight” started as a small indie movie that “blew up.”

None of her recent films have had the same financial impact as the “Twilight” movies, but she’s managed to grow with each film.

In “Camp X-Ray,” she played a soldier assigned to a maximum security prison housing Islamic terrorists.

Here’s what she told Meyers:

“Seriously, those are my high school years. I am in no way choosing little indie movies to step away from it. There’s a through line in all of my projects. I don’t know what I’m doing. I very impulsively go to one thing to the next to the next to the next. So, Twilight blew up, and I still look at it as being something that made me who I am. And in no way am I distancing myself. I’m just trying to do cool stuff.”

Camp X-Ray scored a 72 percent rating on rottentomatoes, which tracks reviews, and Stewart received some positive notices as well.

“As Cole, Kristen Stewart is a good fit. In some of her more notable past roles, her tense, clipped delivery has read like disassociation from the material. But here, we get it,” wrote Bilge Ebiri for New York magazine.

The film was released in November, but received an extremely limited run in seven theaters.

“Clouds of Sils Maria” paired Stewart with Juliette Binoche and Chloë Grace Moretz and she more than held her own.

“A multi-layered, femme-driven meta-fiction that pushes all involved – including next-gen starlets Kristen Stewart and Chloe Grace Moretz – to new heights,” wrote Peter Debruge of trade rag Variety.

The film scored a 90 percent rating on rottentomatoes, although it was lightly reviewed.

Now, Stewart is paired with another power actress Julianne Moore in “Still Alice.”
