Bieber debuted as a grown-up sex symbol in new Calvin Klein ads, following in the footsteps of underwear models like David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
But he’s no Beckham and he’s certainly no Ronaldo. Both are top athletes and among the best soccer players in the world.
As it turned out, Bieber’s muscles, and the considerable bulge in his pants, were added by digital editing, according to a comparison of a leaked before photo with the finished ads.
But that’s not the only reason he’s a joke. The real reason is because he’s such a poser.
His effort to remake his image from teen sensation to adult singer has been a comedy of errors. He’s tried to come off as a hip, bad-boy, but only managed to look foolish.
He’s tried to muscle up by working out, but at 5-feet, 7-inches tall he looks boyish and effeminate. It’s hard to take someone seriously as a tough guy when they have the continence of a Kewpie doll.
Actress Kate McKinnon’s impression of Bieber on “Saturday Night Live,” was a remarkable caricature. She captured his mannerisms and douchiness to a tee.
McKinnon was paired with a lanky model-type who mirrored Bieber’s Calvin Klein model Lara Stone. The Dutch beauty is 5-feet, 10 inches tall and makes Bieber look impish by comparison.
In the skit, McKinnon’s Bieber had to stand on a step-stool to come eye-to-eye with her. McKinnon also played off Bieber’s reputation for loutish behavior.
“I’m not supposed to drink, but I do,” she says, mocking Bieber’s run-ins for under-age drinking in clubs. One of the ads ends with Bieber boasting and pointing to his crotch: “Yeah, my pee pee’s in there,” he says.
McKinnon was so good, her Bieber character is likely to become a permanent fixture on the show.
